Westrand Car Show - 2018 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang has been in uninterrupted production since Mid 1964. Over 10,000,000 Mustangs have been built and sold up to 2018, making it one of Ford’s many success stories.

The Mustang was the original “Pony Car” with it’s Mustang Insignia, distinctive long bonnet and short rear end, a concept followed by the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, Dodge Charger and the Plymouth Barracuda.

There was a time where the Mustang became bigger and heavier and almost lost it’s way but a rethink by designers have extended the marque’s lifespan well past 50 years. The original Mustangs are known to collectors as the 1964½ year. What happened was that production was started before the traditional date every year when the following years’s models are made. Some minor changers were made to the balance of the production of 1964 and 1965 so that experts in Mustangs can identify where each model fits into the historical first production run.

The Mustang was produced alongside the Ford Thunderbird for some years and then it took over the Thunderbird niche in later years.
