ONE OF THE LAST CARS DESIGNED BY LOUIS RENAULT
The Renault Primaquatre was a larger car than the Celtaquatre. It also had a larger engine of 2.1L. The car had, as most did in the 1930’s , a three gear transmission with first gear being non-synchronized. In 1936 the second generation Primaquatre was launched with a 2.4 L engine that delivered more power than the previous generation. Four versions were produced in the next three years but production came to a virtual standstill in 1940 in the face of a fast approaching German Army.
Two interesting improvements in 1937 were the adoption of servo assisted brakes and the removal of the left-hand side fuel tank filler. Up until then Renault had filler caps on both sides of their cars. They can be clearly seen in the top left image in the Renault Celtaquatre Post. Did you notice the change in streamlining from the featured Image (red/maroon car) and the coupe above? That in less than 6 or 7 years
The only modern-day car that the author can remember having dual fuel filling points were Jaguars and Daimlers in the 70’s and 80’s. By 1940 the 2.4 L engine had been upgraded and hydraulic brakes were fitted to some models.

The Westrand Car Show is a Classic Car Show. TO QUALIFY FOR ENTRANCE TO A COMPETITIVE CLASS, VEHICLES MUST HAVE BEEN BUILT OR REGISTERED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1999 OR EARLIER. Only the first 180 QUALIFYING vehicles will receive a commemorative medallion. Any newer vehicle is welcome to be entered as a “non-competitive vehicle” and to be placed on show just because of “the spirit of motoring” and the desire to share the joy that your wheels bring you, with all of the rest of us. See the list of classes below and the entrance form. Remember its a fun day, so don’t take it too seriously.
Non-Competitive vehicles may enter at the gate on the day.
The Westrand Car Show is an alcohol-free event and any person found to have in their possession or to be consuming alcohol will not be admitted and/or will be asked to leave the premises of Dr. Havinga School.
