Datsun cars were fist built in 1914 under the name DAT. From 1914 until 1934 Dat vehicles were not well known in Japan. That changed in 1934 when a new company – called Nissan was established. Nissan marketed their cars under the Nissan brand name from 1934 up until 1958. From 1958 the Datsun brand was used for Nissan’s exports.
Then in 1986 Nissan began rebranding all their vehicles to Nissan. Then is 2013 Nissan relaunched the Datsun brand into Emerging markets (including South Africa) with the entry level Datsun Go.Kerrie en Rys Stalletjie
DATSUN GALLERY 1937 – 1972
Only 50 units of this small Datsun DC 3 Sports cars were built. So they are extremely rare.
The 1200 and 1400 range of cars were discontinued when the 160 range was launched but the 1400 bakkie based on the 1400 sedan was a major seller for many years after.
Datsun’s performance in South Africa had been very successful with the Datsun 1200/1400 range of cars, the 1400 bakkie that went on for years and years. The Y120 range was not as popular but the Datsun 160 and 180 cars, especially the SSS variants were very popular. The Datsun and Nissan brands have competed extremely well against Toyota Ford and Mazda in South Africa
