The French CITROEN Company was founded in 1919 By Andre- Gustave Citroen. The Company quickly developed a reputation as one of the top innovators in the motor industry. Their first ever produced vehicle was a Citroen type A.
Citroen had assembled a group of highly skilled engineering types who designed the Type A towards the end of World War I. The car was announced to the world in January 1919, went into production in March 1919 and the first vehicle was delivered to its new owner in July 1919.
Considering the devastation to Europe as a result of the war, material shortages, struggling economies and the effect of the flu epidemic of 1918 the achievements of Citroen to launch the Model A was most amazing.
In 1921 Citroen launched the Model B Torpedo, a bigger and lower vehicle. Other models followed, including the 1933 Citroen CV15 Rosalie Coupe.
Other interesting links are the Fiat 500 Topolino and the Tatra Group. There is also an article on the Citroën Traction Avant as well as the Citroen 2CV, which did for France what the Model T did for America and the Volkswagen Beetle for Germany
The Westrand Car Show takes place annually and we try to get a broad range of interesting vehicles including veteran cars, vintage cars, classic cars. Street customs, muscle cars, hot rods, superLDVs and motorbikes. The first Citroens featured above are typical of the cars we wish to attract.
